Pastor Ajai Prakash is a third generation Christian who was born in Delhi and raised in North India where Hinduism is predominant and persecution of Christians is inevitable. He had read the Christian scriptures and the Hindu and Islamic literature early in his teens. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord in 1979 during an Evangelical Union Youth Camp.

Pastor Ajai’s father who is an Agricultural Engineer and mother an educationalist had served as tentmaker-missionaries to the Bhil tribes of Northwestern India in his early childhood. When Ajai was 14 months old he had a medical ailment, which could have been fatal in the 1960s. The surgeons thought he had no hope and his parents gave him up for dead. Ajai’s parents promised God that if he lived, he would serve Him all the days of his life.

The churches all over Delhi prayed for his life and God answered in due time. In the years to follow, Ajai sensed God’s hand was upon him but tried to run away from His Call. He was educated in a Christian missionary school and college where he met his wife, Maureena. After majoring in English and Education, and completing a Masters in Sociology and Social Anthropology from Punjab in 1986, he returned to Delhi. Finally, he started to teach English and Social Sciences at a Catholic School in Punjab. This gave him time to attend church regularly and have his meditations.Maureena who is also a third generation Christian was born in Punjab, India. She has a degree in nursing with a specialization in Pediatrics from Christian Medical College, Ludhiana, Punjab. Maureena is a licensed RN of India, Middle-East and Iowa. She is currently the Director of Nursing at Care Initiatives, Coralville. After getting married in 1989, Ajai and his wife were recruited by a middle-eastern country in 1990. Maureena mentored the Arab nursing graduates, while Ajai taught at the Embassy schools and subsequently worked for the government to teach English as a Second Language to Arabs. Only after arriving in the Middle East, they sensed a great need for evangelism and church planting. With their mentors (Pastor Ernest & Lalitha Victor ~ presently in the ME), they pioneered the church ministry for adults, youth and children. They planted a number of house churches along apostolic lines.

Reaching out in love to the Arab Muslims at their jobs was another challenge. Besides English, Ajai and Maureena are articulate in Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Sanskrit and Arabic. Toggling between their secular jobs and ministry was tedious but God gave Ajai and Maureena the strength and wisdom to do what He had called them for. Throughout those years, they learned that God works things out for good for all those who love Him and are called for His purposes. On one of their annual visits to India, their parents told them that they were witnessing the promise come true, which they had vowed before God when Ajai had almost lost his life in early childhood.

During their last four years serving as tentmakers in the Middle East, their ministry grew leaps and bounds. They started to disciple, mentor and train more laborers to minister and reap the harvest. Their intimacy with God was nurtured by spending time daily in prayer, worship, meditating on God’s Word and learning to seek His leading in every aspect of their lives. During the course of their ministry, Ajai discovered that God had given him the gifts of teaching, interactive preaching and ministering to hurting souls. Many of whom they ministered to, discerned ‘God’s Call’ upon their lives. Early 2004 God gave them a call to move to the USA as missionaries to this nation. Since their arrival in the USA, they had been active missionaries of Valley Church. For over two decades of their ministry they have ministered to people from all walks of life.

While studying on the East coast in Massachusetts, God led them to attend Pilgrim Church (Multi-cultural American) in Beverly, where Ajai eventually had the opportunity to serve as a ‘Student Associate Pastor.’ Because of their past experience, Pilgrim Church gave Ajai and Maureena an opportunity to conduct ‘Adult Sunday School,’ ‘Outreach Ministry’ and ‘Bible Studies’ for families. Ajai also discipled lay members and preached regularly. Ajai is ordained by the Middle East churches and has an independent ordination from California. He has never doubted his calling to pastoral ministry and has learned in all these years that when we acknowledge God in all our ways, He will direct our paths. Surely God is shaping them into a people to be used for the extension of His Kingdom. During May 2007, Ajai graduated ‘Magna Cum Laude’ with a Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, Massachusetts. In the same year he was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from the West coast.

He is fond of Biblical languages and has a special affinity for Hebrew. ‘God’s Call’ to Ajai to shepherd the flock at ‘The Well’ (formerly known as ‘Valley Church’)came timely, just before Paul Bult (founding pastor) went to be with our Lord. Pastor Ajai and Maureena have a passion for spiritual awakening, renewal, revival, missions, outreach, church planting and re-evangelizing the American churches. Pastor Ajai and his wife Maureena are people of the Book whose lives and ministries are centered on the Bible, and they are people of prayer who have learned during their own years of ministry that God accomplishes His work “not by might, nor by power but by [His] Holy Spirit,” through prayer and God’s anointing on their lives.
